Megadrum issue when connected to pc

Postby educr0w » Wed Sep 15, 2010 5:02 pm

Hello, I didn't know in which forum post this.

A friend built meagradum in january or around that month, when the source was free.
I have synthex v3.2 kit.

When he connects his megadrum to his pc, in Device Manager appear Megadrum Midi.
When I connect my kit to my pc, in Device Manager I have Usb Audio Device.
(the first time, when windows detected it, It said Installing Megadrum Midi, when it
finished it said that the device was correctly installed and ready to use)

I've try Drum Tutor with one sensor only, in the snare input and is detected.
MCT detect it too, and when I hit the piezo the blue bars in the monitor register values.

Why is that difference?

Megadrum seems to be ok?

sorry about my english.
Thanks
Eduardo.-

If I understand correctly you're asking why the USB device naming convention is different between several PCs? I think you should ask Microsoft :-)

Otherwise there is no associated problem so both your PC and MegaDrum are working as they should in this regard.

USB device naming convention is not different between several PCs.
When you plug a device it always the same name, for example any usb or pci device.
You get the webcam name, the camera name, the pendrive name, etc..

A friend have older megadrum with free version of the firmware and he gets Megadrum name.
In this case I want to know how is Synthex v3.2.
If other user plug it and get Megadrum Name, I have a problem with mine.
If all user get Usb Audio device name, mine is correct too.

As I said, the first time I've connected, the new hardware icon appear in system tray,
in the tooltip or popup appear "New device found, Megadrum Midi etc.." then I get
"The new hardware is installed and ready for use".
And the name is Usb Audio device.

Thanks!

USB MIDI firmware in PIC and MegaDrum firmware in Atmega are two different things.

In this case I want to know how is Synthex v3.2.
If other user plug it and get Megadrum Name, I have a problem with mine.
If all user get Usb Audio device name, mine is correct too.

If half of users gets MegaDrum name and another half gets USB Audio device name will you think that you have a problem or not?
In either case what real problem does one or another USB device name give you?

I know that.

I didn't know that half of user gets MegaDrum name and another half gets USB Audio Device.
That was the idea of this question, know about that.

Beside that, I wanted to know if independent of the name the hard/soft was correct or not.

Your answer is a bit aggressive, I'm not expert, that was the reason I've looked for help here.

I apologize for bother with this doubt.

Applying common sense when looking at problems helps me in many circumstances. I hope it helpts to others too.

I know that.

Apparently you didn't, otherwise you would have not kept referencing MegaDrum firmware/source code in your USB problem description. And by the way, MegaDrum firmware is free just as it was before and MegaDrum firmware source code has never been published - free or not.

You suggested two options to choose from to answer your question about USB device name. Neither is correct.
I hinted at the third option. I'm sorry if you take this for aggression.

We're not aggressive :-) just a bit puzzled that you found this little device naming inconsistency such a big deal in the face of other potential serious hardware problems that you could have had. Don't be offended by it.

I'm still don't know if both name are right or not.

I hope my megadrum is fine.

I try MCT and I get info in the Midi Monitor. I have a piezo and I've connected into
differents inputs (tomX, snare, etc) and I get info in the Midi Monitor. I get info in the
lcd too.

I try Drum Tutor software and for example, the song ask for a snare hit,
if I hit the piezo in the correct time I get good hit, excellent, etc. I think megadrum
is working fine and pc communication too.

Is any way to do a test and know if megadrum is ok or not?
or, Do I'll notice that using it?

Thanks!

You've tested it already by doing what you described above your question.

Yes it is fine. Mine comes up with the same name as yours. I think Dmitri gets tired of answering questions sometimes and comes off a bit snappy. Don't take it personally.
