I dont even have access to a soldering iron anymore! I gotta find a guy somewhere equipped with soldering material that would be willing to help me!

now how do you go about finding where the bad contact is?!

and no soldering iron? really?! I assumed you were the type of guy that had a soldering iron in holster at his hip at all times! ;)

First I'll try to look at each contact using a magnifying glass (that I dont have!). Then I'll probably need to ask questions!

First of all I'm not a guy!
And I gotta admit, when i started this project I was living close to a friend engineer that would let me use his tools. But ever since I moved, I've been praying that my MD goes well! Now I'm screwed!

Just for the info, Firelord, here's what happens with MDUpdate
MDupdate-printscreen.png

After a while it's still stuck at time remaining 00:000:00 etc etc...
With MCT and MDUpdate the process doesn't even look like it's "starting" and I have to force quit the app. Even worse... after a force quit I cant kill the process using the task manager. It just stays there and makes my computer's fan run like crazy. Plus my computer wont shut down using the Start/shut down menu. I have to press the power button!

Did MCT(it uses two way communication) ever worked for you for configuring MegaDrum?

When i was using a Mac (a G4) it wasn't working correctly. But with Windows XP and Windows 7, yes, it did work

Have you ever noticed mismatch between configuration settings in MegaDrum and in MCT when sending/loading settings to/from MegaDrum with MCT?
Have you ever noticed strange problems after firmware upgrades with the old bootloader?
Do you have the Atmega ISP programming cable or did your old Atmega come pre-programmed with the old bootloader?

The only mismatch i remember was with the hihat pedal... after adjusting my settings with MCT and exporting "ALL settings" to MD, I closed everything and the day after I noticed that in MD, the high level was set to auto "Yes", while I clearly remembered putting it to NO and set it to a specific value. That same mismatch happened 3 or 4 times and then the bug disappeared. But else than that.... I haven't notice any mismatch

No. I mean, I've always had all sorts of small problems that randomly appeared and disappeared, but never noticed any RIGH AFTER a firmware upgrade.

My old Atmega came pre-programmed with the rest of the Syntex 2.7kit

I had the same problem, it was being caused bij an other program (SD2) already using the Midi port preventing mdfwupdater to use the midiport exlusively.
Make sure no other Midi related software is running on your computer during the update.
If it ain't broken try to improve it.

If it is not due to the possible cause r0bbie just suggested, I'm afraid you have the same problem as I had with my old dev board.

if that's the case, then I guess the ONLY options I have are to either buy a new kit :x , OR , find a guy with a soldering iron, a magnifying glass, flux, pliers etc.. and take a close look at each and every soldering on my MD and re-solder anything that doesn't look perfectly clean.

I'll try the second option!

I'm back from work. I found the "technical room" at the radio station where I work and a technician that solders electronic parts all day long. He let me use his magnifying glass lamp, I took a close look at each of my soldering but couldn't find anything unusual. I told him what I was doing and he also looked closely at my board... didn't find anything messy, no "bridge", no drops, nothing special.
