i'm trying to figure out where to plug in a LED as to show if the MD is ON or OFF.
as the LCD i have won't be visible (it's hidden behind a "door" in the rack i'm doing).

i have the MIDI LED, which is great for midi activity.

but where can i put an ON/OFF indicator/LED ?

btw. i only use the USB function (ie. no external power supply).

Anywhere between ground and +5 over a ~470R-1k resistor.

so basically from LCD pin 1 and 2 (which runs +4.97v).

is there a simple way to split and route "midi activity LED on/off" out to the SNARE, BASSDRUM and TOMS, for something like this:

cause the MIDI LED does exactly that.
just for ALL midi activity.
but if it could be split, and we could use REALLY bright LEDs - we'd have AWESOME acoustic-to-electric drumsets

That would be a neat thing to figure out, I'm sure it would be easier to implement on the actual pads though, I wouldn't think the midi light has much "room" to expand into channels...

If there was a way to split piezo data coming into the MD and route each channel into a led VU meter, that'd be pretty cool... or to output the VU meters from the MD... But that's all small stuff, I think the lights show direction your heading for would be easiest with a midi DMX controller...
