Still an issue with HD-1 kick

Postby Xmattz » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:30 pm

Ok, my MD is working perfectly, except, It doesn't recognize my roland HD1 kick pedals signal (both for HH and kick drum). It looks like the HD1 is using a kind of propriatary signal on the kicks, that the module probably knows how to handle but not the MD (here is the most advanced post I found on the web after hours of research :))

So I plan to add some sensor to the 2 HD1 pedals and add a jack to be able to plug to the MD. In that way, I will have the choice using the orignal output jack with the the HD1 module or the new jack output with the MD.

So here is the question :
1) What would be the best way to do that ? I was thinking about optical controller (as discussed here)
2) Will it work for HH and kick drum or should I use different system ?

PS : I know I could plug the midi out of the HD1 module to midi in of MD and this would solve all issues, but well, I would like to have a solution where I get rid of the crappy module...

Does the HD-1 HiHat pedal work with MegaDrum?
Is the HD-1 kick pedal interchangeable with the HD-1 HiHat pedal?

Well no, none of the pedal works on MD's HH pedal input. This imput seems to work because when I plug/unplug the jack, I see the pedal level changing but when in jack is well plugged, I hit the pedal and nothing happens.

It seems that both pedal work the same. I think I gonna open these and try to see what's inside. But anyway I m sure there is some spce to add a new sensor, that's why I asked what kind of sensor I should use (and if optical can work as well for Kick drum)

For sure you can use an optical sensor for HiHat pedal.
At present there is no support for using a HiHat pedal as a Kick but I'll think about it.

Ok so optical for the HH, and piezo for Kick.

I found tons of information on how to build toms cybal in DYI, but still I didn't found reliable info on piezo themself. Can I buy the 1€ piezo that my electronic shop deals ? What about the frequencies, I have the choice between 2.9, 4.6 and 6.6 Khz, is there any thing to care about ?

You don't have to care about frequency
