Megadrum Build - JamalPiper

Postby jamalpiper » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:19 pm

Finally finding time to build it, all the parts have been sitting in the corner for a month now.

My original idea was to build the megadrum rackmounted with only a breakout cable port on the back. I might be scrapping the rackmount for this.

They are old satelite recievers/transmitter boxes. Found them while cleaning out the garage. They are big enough for the chip, has usb already, two LEDs, just enough room for the LCD and encoders on the front. And it comes with a power supply which might be usable.

Heres my frontpanel idea there will be a power switch under the LEDs, (photoshop is great when you know how to use it well ;) )

Back Panel:

The Power Supply gives +19.5V ~ 2.37A and +6.5V ~ 1.3A is this useable with the all-in-one V2.5 in any way? Or should I just scrap that idea and only use usb.

Woo, got side tracked a bit by school again. But I built my snare yesterday, I meant to work on the board, but the snare seemed less intimidating. Tested with my electric set and it works well, or as well as my little module functions.

I etched my V2.5 Board and I got this. It's hard to see but about 50% of the smaller traces are broken, not by large gaps, but very small breaks. The ground area around the board is a mess, but the interior looks ok, no pads missing.

What are my options? Will this small gaps go away by tinning the traces? Is tinning the traces a good idea?

Will this end up being too big of a headache that I should simply redo the board?

I guess the camera phone pictures don't help much.

They didn't. In short, you should really have a PCB with no obvious shorts or breaks. Do it again.
