Single Board Megadrum and current firmware

Hello

I built the single board version 32 input Megadrum some while ago. The firmware version number begins 2008, so I guess that is the year. Having visited your Website, I think I should upgrade it.
My first question is can I upgrade it to the latest version and if so, which processor will it accept?
Secondly, can I order a processor with the protected boot loader?
Thirdly. I did not fit the PIC18f2550 when I built the board, I used MIDI. Today, I loaded the latest Hex file to a PIC18f2550 using a pickit3. I installed the chip an connected the USB to a PC. The PC sees the Megadrum but loses it after a few seconds, finding it again perhaps 10 seconds later and continues to cycle thus. I cannot find a PCB fault. Any Ideas?

Regards and thank you.

If Atmega644 in DIP fits your board then join in http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtop ... f=3&t=1904

Compare schematic of your board with the current MegaDrum schematic. If your board is very old then there will be differences around the PIC.
