I saw the option for atmega1284 in the pre-fab kit listings. Is atmega1284 a direct swap for atmega644? I assume that it is atmega1284p-pu pdip-40 package in most cases(assuming dmitri megadrum32 digital board eeschema was used?) How much are bootloader equipped versions of atmega1284?

In the nearest future for chips on its own Atmega644 is the only option.
