Info about Hall effect connection

Hello everyone,

sorry I tried but I have not found what I needed.

Today I received my Hall effect sensors, the model is A1302.

In a discussion I read that one pin is connected to +5 volts .. but where can I get this tension?

I would also like to know what to plug into the female jack on megadrum ?

what are the configuration of tip ring and sleeve?

thanks a lot

Hi there,

your hi-hat pedal input on the megadrum should be a jack with 3 connections.. so called tip, ring, and sleeve. Typically the sleeve would be 0v (ground) tip and ring will be 5v and signal or vice-versa depending on how you connected it (measure it with a multi-meter) or just check your connections.. in the syntex pcb there is a jumper (or switch) to cross these two over or not.

the hall sensor is just connected directly.. one pin to each. you should check the data sheet of the sensor to know which is which.

Here is data sheet for the sensor I used

http://www.jaycar.com.au/images_uploaded/UGN3503.PDF

here is the one for yours which seem to be the same sensitivity and brand as mine (1.3mv/G) but different model / packaging

http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet- ... A1302.html

note that the magnet should oriented with North side towards the label. this will give approx 2.5v out when magnet is far from the sensor (hh open) and about 1.3v out when the magnet is close (ie hh closed). the distance away from the sensor that you can move before reaching full open I think is a function of the magnet size (not peak strength). If you are placing in the pedal then maximum distance does not matter so much... if directly in the top of the hh then its more important. (with a small magnet the range may be very short)

the actual mega drum settings for high and low can be adjusted to make these equal to full open / full closed (I can't remember the exact values I used but its easy to do by trial)

hope this is helpful

Dean

thanks for the reply

i don't know what is connected

I don't have the input kit, to my pcb 56 v3.2 i have this output:

1 - GND
2 - HiHat controller High impedance input
3 - HiHat controller Power source
4 - HiHat controller Low impedance input

what i need to connect on my jack and in my hall sensor?

thanks

Power source IS +5

Thanks dmitri

+5 input on VCC of hall effect and GND to ground of hall effect, right?

but the "low " or " high" impedence?

i would like know the pin out of megadrum to hall effect

You will need to try which input works better for the Hall sensor.

I use the low impedance input which is the default one (as per the default configuration setting HiHat Pedal->AltIn: No)

thanks

yes i have connected in to low impedence and works good

but sorry, is normal that the magnet must be attached to almost sensor for close completely the hihat?

I'm guessing no - you need to adjust LowLevel presuming, of course, that you already set LevelsAuto to No.

For sure the first thing is as what Dimitri is saying. Set up the ranges for the pedal (LowLevel and HiLevel) in the Megadrum. Definitely make sure auto hi-level is off

The values will be about 266 and 512 as a starting point based on 1.3v and 2.5v, my actual values are something like 300 and 580.

But there are a couple of other factors at play.. the hall sensor measures the magnetic field strength which you have to be aware drops off very quickly (inverse cube)..so its like 1/8th strength at double the distance. You should also apply one of the curves in the MD to try and correct this non linear output (eg Exp2)

Also a physically bigger magnet will help the perceived impact of this (because at the surface of the magnet you are already some way from the centre of the field).

Seems to me that others are using much smaller magnet than me so maybe its not a big deal.
