Another entry of Printing Woes

Postby jamalpiper » Fri Dec 05, 2008 12:27 am

So I printed the All-in-one V2.5 board out (not my own printer) . And it appeared right, but on closer measurement, it printed to 69mm X 140mm. I think it was gastric that had a similar issue too with it printing 69X139 or so.

My question, is this useable? Or will it simply not work? I imagine it won't effect anything but the longer headers, but wouldn't there be enough room to "squash" them in? I'm asking because I won't have another chance to print/etch till next week and I want to get it done as soon as possible.

Best thing to do IMO is lay the IDE connector and IC sockets right on the printout and make sure the pins will match up to the holes exactly. The pins on the IDE connector in particular as it's the longest (so skewing in the print will affect it the easiest) and it has very strong leads which are more difficult to bend. With that said, I did have to bend the last couple rows of my IDE connector slightly to fit it into the holes I drilled. So I either didn't drill very straight or my print was slightly off.

+1 on this

And for reference, once I got the board done, i discovered that is better to do the holes for the IDE connector with 1mm and the rest with 0.8 mm size drill bits. I did all the holes with .8 and when I wanted to install the IDE connector it wouldn't fit, not because of bad printing, but for small holes ;)
Had to do those again with 1mm bit.

Hope it helps.
